Message from the CEO: November 2024
EDCO has achieved significant milestones this year, marked by policy advocacy, recognition for the organization’s accomplishments and expanded impact. Reflecting on the past several months, I can’t help but feel a tremendous sense gratitude and appreciation for partners’ and stakeholders’ unwavering support and shared vision.
In a decisive victory for Oregon’s business community, voters rejected Measure 118, a proposed tax that posed significant economic risks. Thanks to its defeat, Oregon businesses and communities can be more competitive, safeguard jobs and mitigate the strain that would have been placed on consumers. EDCO remains committed to keeping members and stakeholders informed and engaged as these complex issues are navigated and supporting policies that mitigate regulatory burdens impacting the economy.
At last month’s Oregon Economic Development Association(OEDA) Annual Conference in Klamath Falls, EDCO was recognized with the 'Exceptional Marketing and Promotion' award for its leadership in the 2023 High Desert Innovation Week. This initiative, a collaboration between EDCO, Bend Outdoor Worx (BOW), Cultivate Bend, and the Central Oregon Innovation Network, showcased the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through a week-long series of events. The website developed and managed by EDCO played a pivotal role in unifying the events under a single platform, earning acclaim for its innovative approach to community engagement.
Further highlighting its impact, EDCO recently received the Tom Holce Community Catalyst Award at the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network (OEN)Awards. This accolade recognizes individuals and organizations that create opportunities for connection, education and services to support entrepreneurs. For decades, EDCO has worked tirelessly to foster a landscape of innovation and entrepreneurship in Central Oregon. EDCO is deeply grateful for the partners and community members whose support makes this work possible.
I’m pleased to announce that EDCO recently expanded its team with the addition of Brenna Fulks as Jefferson County Area Director, who will focus on facilitating business relocations, managing incentive programs and supporting local traded-sector companies. The organization is also thrilled to welcome back Ben Hutchins, former EDCO Intern, as Administrative and Marketing Coordinator. In this role he supports EDCO’s marketing and operations efforts. EDCO is grateful for partners like Mid Oregon Personnel Services, Express Employment Professionals and Barrett Business Services, Inc. for always saying ‘yes’ to supporting EDCO by facilitating professional searches that bring such high-quality candidates to the organization.
EDCO remains committed to fostering a thriving business ecosystem. With gratitude for its community partners, the organization looks forward to continued collaboration and growth in the coming year.
